Lowland unimproved meadows

Adder's-tongue fern.jpg Adder's-tongue fern, Runnymede Meadows, 2007 Andrew Fielding

Neutral grasslands with their rich mix of grasses and dicotyledonous herbs are the habitat of a number of nationally rare and scarce meadow plants. You may see greater yellow rattle Rhinanthus angustifolius, downy-fruited sedge Carex filiformis, narrow-leaved water dropwort Oenanthe silaifolia and dwarf mouse-ear Cerastuim pumilum. Green-winged orchid Orchis morio and adder's-tongue fern Ophioglossum vulgatum are good indicator species being dependent on unimproved neutral grassland.
